Gauley Season is hard to get to! We are making it easier. With round-trip boat/gear transportation from Montana and Colorado to a private campground. We all share shuttles to the river(s). Guided trips and safety kayakers can be booked via our partner outfitters for an additional fee. If you've ever wanted to experience the Gauley, but haven't been able to pull it together- we created this trip just for you.

The Gauley and New are known for their playboating, but river running is also great fun. On this trip we will have shuttles to the Upper Gauley, Lower Gauley, and the New River. There is also a potential option to go paddle other nearby rivers like the Youghiogheny and Meadow if time and water release allow.

The rafting on the Gauley and New Rivers is legendary. If you want to be shown the lines, or hop on a commercial trip, both of those options can be arranged for an additional cost.

River Surfing Diagonal Ledges on the Lower Gauley is one of the best river waves in the country. It's easy to take the surfboards along on a raft trip of the Lower G and turn it into a surf session!

Day by Day

ITINERARY

  1. 01Day 1- Thursday, October 1st

    Most guests will choose to fly into Charlotte, North Carolina, as it has the most flight options and the best pricing. Arrive on a flight landing before 3 PM, and the Set Out team will shuttle you from the airport to our camp.

    • Fly into Charlotte, NC (CLT) or Beckley, WV BKW
    • Check into camp and gear set up.
    • Ground Transfer from Charlotte Airport to Camp/Summersville, WV. (4 Hours)
    • Cheapest flights:
    • Montana- Kalispell or Bozeman to Charlotte
    • Colorado - Denver to Charlotte
  2. 02Day 2- Friday, October 2nd

    First day on the River. A morning lower lap with surfing at Diagonal Ledges can be a great way to dust off the travel.

    • Breakfast at Camp
    • Shuttles depart for the River
    • Packed Lunch or Lunch Drop Provided
    • Dinner- Location TBD
  3. 03Day 3- Saturday, October 3rd

    A full day of running the Upper/Lower Gauley. Saturdays during Gauley Season are busy and there wil be plenty of entertainment!

  4. 04Day 4- Sunday, October 4th

    Optional New River Day

    • Breakfast at Camp
    • Shuttle departs for the New River (Gauley Shuttles also running)

  5. 05Day 5- Monday, October 5th

    Final Day- Morning and Afternoon shuttles and transfer to the airport hotel in Charlotte after paddling.

Where You Sleep

LODGING

GLAMPING

Our private camp location is on the bank of the Meadow River, 15 minutes from the Gauley and the New. Standard accommodations are a standing-height glamping tent with cots and bedding. A bathroom/shower trailer on site allows us to have this little slice of West Virginia heaven all to ourselves. There is a lean-to common area with seating and weather protection, a fire pit, and a bike path that leaves right from camp.

Pricing Details

The price includes transport for one raft or kayak. Custom quotes can be provided for more than 1 person sharing a raft together, non-paddling guests, and children.
